Well folks, it’s that time again. Time to start making really long to-do lists! Why, you may ask? Well as of September 28th I am starting my yearlong RTW working holiday trip. Exciting stuff, especially considering it is a mere 41 days away!!! So many travel plans!
Where am I headed? Starting off with a quick 3-day stopover in Hong Kong to visit an old friend from my university days, followed by a 3-month stint in Australia. My actual destination will be determined by where I can find some work – however I am landing in my beloved Sydney, and totally would not be opposed to finding some work there. So any Sydneysiders with any potential job opportunities for this lovely lady, I would gladly appreciate any heads up!
Next on the docket, will be a 4-to-5-month stint in New Zealand where I hope to find work in the Far North, so that I can continue to live with my friends in Ahipara. All money earned in this time (as well as the money earned in Australia) will be helping fund the next destination.
AFRICA! I am currently looking into Overland tours with two different companies GAP Adventures and Acacia Africa. Both companies have fantastic reviews – so it really just comes down to timing and when the tours are offered. My mom’s best friend has a “big” birthday coming up in 2012 and has asked me if I’d like to join her on a trip to Africa. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. We’ve been looking at a number of different tours offered, but I think we’ve narrowed it down to a 3week tour from Zambia, through Botswana, Namibia and ending up in Cape Town, South Africa.
After that, travel plans are up in the air. Possibly thinking of returning to New Zealand to work some more, however, thoughts of traveling through South East Asia have come up. South East Asia has been in my sights for quite sometime now, and I have been dying for the opportunity to get there. So, it’s really just all a matter of money and how much everything before then is going to cost.
I am super excited though, and extremely busy. I have given my work my notice that I am leaving, and I have already made calls to my credit card company, insurance company and have made an appointment with the travel clinic to get some vaccinations. The flight is bought and this is quite possibly the thing I am most looking forward to in the near future, since I managed to get FIRST CLASS flights for not a whole lot more than the cost of economy. I can thank my dad’s travel guy for hooking me up with some sweet flights.
If anyone has any tips or suggestions, please leave a comment below or feel free to send me an email. I look forward to documenting the next year’s worth of travels for you amazing people to read all about- and hopefully inspire some of you guys to go ahead and follow your own dreams, whatever they may be.
