5 Reasons Why New Zealand is the Best Country I’ve Travelled To

I’ve always been intrigued why Melissa chose New Zealand to live in. She’s come from the beautiful country of Canada and her world is her oyster. Yet, she chose New Zealand. I mean she could have chosen the fab country of Australia, maybe become an ex-pat in South East Asia or perhaps even have a meange-a-trois with a couple of Frenchmen in France!

(Editors Note: I have lived in Australia, Ed!  Remember… I’m the one who talked Sydney up to ya!)

So, while coming over to visit her in Northland, New Zealand to check out her digs in Ahipara, I could see why she would want to live here.

It’s nice.
No… beautiful.
No… gorgeous.
No I think it’s AWESOME!

She told me to book myself on a trip with Sand Safaris to Cape Reinga, the northernmost tip of the country.  I had an absolute whale of a time and I couldn’t wait to explore the rest of the country.

So as I sipped a cup of tea with her on her balcony, with the roar of the sea upon 90 Mile Beach behind us, I envied Melissa there and then.  She’s got it made. She lives in a very close community, as I discovered when I went to speak at a local school and attended a few local events; has beautiful scenery behind her; a steady job working with horses and another dealing with the public; and possibly a place that made the best fish n chips- it’s hard to leave this place.

As I toured New Zealand, it became more and more clear to me that New Zealand is the Best Country that I’ve travelled to. And I have been travelling a long time beforehand in Europe, Africa, SE Asia and Australia. So why is it the best country? I’ll give you 5 reasons.

1)     Best Scenery – Seriously. I’m not kidding. I’m an extremely hard person to ‘wow’ so waking up everyday in a different place to beautiful scenery has my breath taken away. I cannot actually narrow down the best scenic spots of New Zealand, it’s that hard. But special mentions do have to go to Milford Sound, Cape Reinga, Abel Tasman Park, Kaikoura, Queenstown…oh there’s too many! Check out this pic below. Stunning isn’t it?

2)     Best Marine Wildlife – You are guaranteed to see whales, dolphins and especially seals! Even baby seals, like the ones I saw in in Kaikoura…awwwwwwww. baby seal

3)     Best People – I’ve met a lot of nationalities in my life and I really do think that Kiwis are the best people I’ve ever met in New Zealand and also on my travels in other countries. Their sense of humour is second to none, their zest for life and adventure has me smiling from ear to ear. I’m tempted to marry a Kiwi!

4)     Adrenaline Activities – I love New Zealand for its adventure activities! Whitewater rafting, skydiving, zip lining, bungee jumping off over the Nevis River, scuba diving and many more. You’re not gonna get bored travelling around this country!

5)     Easy Transport Options – with fantastic road networks, you’re not going to be disappointed if you hire a car, campervan or even jump on one of the many bus tour groups on offer.  Kiwi Experience, Stray, Magic, The Flying Kiwi, and many more offer routes guaranteed to take you to places that are not on the beaten track. I went on a bus tour which was absolutely phenomenal and next time I visit, I’ll be grabbing a campervan to go at my own speed.

So there you have it!  New Zealand is truly the best country to travel in.  And you know what?  I’ll be coming back again!  Maybe to live with and marry Melissa so I can stay longer…she’s hot.

(Editors Note: Ed’s plan is slightly flawed… my current working holiday visa is up in December 2012… that, and I’m not Kiwi, so marrying me would render him useless!)

Hi there,
I am a NZer living in Yorkshire, UK and have really enjoyed reading what you have written about my beloved homeland. We are lucky enough to have a few years living on the other side of the globe and are finding some beautiful places but still love NZ. The history and beautiful old buidings are missing at home so we are making the most of them while we are here. Travel is also much cheaper with so many countries nearby.
It is nice to know other people love it and enjoy it as much as we do. Thank you for the awesome write-up / advert – I hope you will get the chance to return soon.
Happy travels
One Proud Kiwi

Hi Gaylene – Ed did a great job on this article, and I share many of his sentiments. I am cherishing my last few weeks of New Zealand myself – but I will surely be back (heck this is my 3rd trip here as it is!)

You have a lot to be proud of!

I couldn’t agree with you more!!! NZ is my favourite country, that’s no secret. I’ve done all the adrenalin adventures you mentioned before, and skydiving is my favourite. Glad you had such a great time!

There is a reason I keep returning to NZ- this is my 3rd trip to this amazing country, and definitely not my last. I did my first bungee jump here in 2009 and did my first skydive this past March in Paihia… and I can safely say, it’s such an incredible country to have these amazing experiences amongst a beautiful backdrop!

I know Ed shares similar sentiments!

What a great roundup of NZ “bests!” There are so many incredible places, natural and city, to explore! But Ahipara does stand out as one of the tops! Glad you liked it.
